oldán era un caballero cristiano que en la Edad Media luchaba con todas sus fuerzas contra la invasión musulmana. El destino quiso que cayera perdidamente enamorado de una joven que profesaba la misma religión contra la que con tanto empeño batallaba día tras día. Ella correspondió a su amor y le convirtió en la persona más feliz sobre la faz de la tierra. Llegó a los oídos de un brujo musulmán esta historia de amor por la que no mostró la más mínima compasión, lanzando un conjuro contra la bella joven: su corazón enamorado dejaría de latir cuando el sol se ocultase y dejara en penumbras a la población de Benidorm. Roldán trató, sin éxito, de encontrar a este malvado ser. Las horas pasaban y la luz caía. El caballero cogió en brazos a su moribundo amor y subió a la cima del Puig Campana. El paso del tiempo se mostraba inexorable y la vida se escapaba de los ojos de la muchacha. Roldán desenvainó su espada Durandarte y arremetió contra la roca creando un tajo por el que la luz iluminó durante unos minutos más la población que yacía a sus pies. Fueron sólo dos, pero nunca ha habido en ningún lugar del mundo un amor tan verdadero como el que se profesaron durante este tiempo los dos jóvenes amantes. Al morir ella, Roldán golpeó con tanta rabia el trozo de roca que se había desprendido que fue a parar al mar, formando lo que hoy se conoce como la Isla de Benidorm.

Ha pasado mucho tiempo y el espíritu de Roldán sigue buscando a ese despreciable brujo.

Aquellos que quieran ayudarle a encontrarlo, están citados para salir en su búsqueda el próximo 16 de noviembre a las 23:59 en la Plaza Unión Europea de Finestrat. Serán 102 kilómetros que recorrerán todo el entorno del Puig Campana y de la Sierra de Aitana. Los siguientes turnos serán al día siguiente a las 06:30, 08:00 y 09:30. En este caso, aquellos que salgan en su búsqueda harán recorridos de 65, 40 y 20 kilómetros. No quedará ni un lugar donde este despreciable ser pueda esconderse.

 

Roldan was a Christian knight who, in the Middle Ages, fought with all his might against the Muslim invasion. Fate would have him fall deeply in love with a young woman who professed the same religion he fought so hard against day after day. She returned his love and made him the happiest person on the face of the earth. News of this love story reached the ears of a Muslim sorcerer who felt no sympathy and cast a spell against the beautiful young woman: her heart in love would stop beating when the sun went down and left the settlement of Benidorm in total darkness. Roldan tried, unsuccessfully, to find this evil being. The hours passed by and the light fell. The knight took his dying love in his arms and climbed to the top of Puig Campana. The passage of time was inescapable and life slipped away from her eyes. Roldan drew his sword Durandarte and struck the rock leaving a slit through which light shone for a few minutes more on the town that lay at his feet. It was only two minutes, but there has never been since, anywhere in the world, a love as true as that professed by the two young lovers. When she died, Roldan struck the piece of rock that had fallen off with such rage that it ended up in the sea, forming what is now known as Benidorm Island.

Much time has passed since then, but the spirit of Roldan continues to search for that despicable sorcerer.

Those who want to help find him are invited to join the search on November 16th at 23:59 in European Union Square, Finestrat. It will entail 102 kilometers covering the entire surroundings of Puig Campana and Sierra de Aitana. The next shifts will take place the following day at 06:30, 08:00 and 09:30. In this case, those who go out on the search will cover 65, 40 and 20 kilometers. No stone will be left unturned where this despicable being can hide.

 

 

 

Costa Blanca Trails tendrá lugar el fin de semana del 16 al 18 de noviembre por el entorno del Puig Campana, la Serrella y la Aitana. Este evento, que celebrará este año su segunda edición, cuenta con cuatro carreras de montaña de 102K, 65K, 40K y 20K con muy fuertes desniveles, que discurren por los términos municipales de Finestrat, Polop de la Marina, Benimantell, Benifato, Beniardá, Confrides y Sella. La prueba de 20K está abierta también a senderistas.

Los 1.410 metros sobre el nivel del mar del Puig Campana son parte de la historia del trail running nacional e incluso internacional. Su cumbre, separada por tan sólo algo más de 7,5 kilómetros del mar Mediterráneo, ha visto como desde hace muchos años, corredores y corredoras de montaña, han utilizado como ruta para llegar a ella, aquella que consigue salvar más de mil metros de desnivel positivo en unos tres kilómetros. Este ascenso vertical es mítico y ha sido campeonato regional, de España, de Europa e incluso prueba de la Copa del Mundo. También esta cima es protagonista de Costa Blanca Trails. Los perfiles de las modalidades de 102K, 65K y 40K muestran como los participantes comenzarán, nada más y nada menos, con este kilómetro vertical.

Esta prueba no regala nada. O sí, porque la belleza compite con la dureza en un entorno brutal en el que el mar roba en numerosas ocasiones el protagonismo a la montaña. En Costa Blanca Trails está muy presente el mar Mediterráneo. No hay muchas pruebas que puedan decir esto. Y es que poder contemplar su azul intenso da fuerzas para seguir avanzando hacia otro de los protagonistas de las dos modalidades de ultra distancia: el pico de Aitana, que con sus 1.558 metros sobre el nivel del mar, es el punto más alto de la provincia de Alicante.

 

 

La sierra de Aitana es un deleite para los sentidos. Paredes verticales que terminan en vértices puntiagudos. Contrastes de sus cimas con planicies por donde circulan bellos arroyos. Vistas que se alojan en nuestra memoria para no marcharse jamás. Refugio de águilas perdiceras, halcones, gavilanes y búhos que cuando sobrevuelan las cumbres más altas pueden llegar a divisar las islas de Ibiza o Mallorca. Como este entorno, no hay otro igual.

Este evento, que cuenta entre sus principales patrocinadores con SCARPA o ACCAPI, además del Patronato Turístico Costa Blanca de la Diputación de Alicante y el Ayto. de Finestrat, está organizado por un equipo con una gran experiencia en el mundo de las carreras de montaña. Esto es sinónimo de garantía para una prueba que se celebra en un mes donde las condiciones meteorológicas pueden ser cambiantes.

Costa Blanca Trails está llamada a convertirse en una prueba de referencia a nivel nacional. La proximidad con la costa levantina también hace que sean muchos los participantes de otras nacionalidades. Ya sólo queda esperar a que la caída de las hojas de los árboles marque el inicio del otoño. Toca madrugar o aprovechar el ocaso del sol para, con la ayuda de la luz de los frontales, preparar nuestros cuerpos para un desafío mayúsculo.

 

 

Costa Blanca Trails will take place on the weekend of November 16-18th, around Puig Campana, Serrella and Aitana. This event, celebrating its second edition this year, includes four mountain races of 102K, 65K, 40K and 20K distances with very steep slopes, which pass through the towns of Finestrat, Polop de la Marina, Benimantell, Benifato, Beniarda, Confrides and Sella. The 20K race is also open to hikers.

The 1,410 meters above sea level of Puig Campana are part of national and even international trail running history. Its summit, separated by just 7.5 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, has seen mountain runners, for many years, use it as a route and one which manages to maintain its more than a thousand meters of positive height gain in just three kilometers. This vertical ascent is legendary and has been part of championships at a regional, Spanish, European and even World Cup level. This summit is also the protagonist of Costa Blanca Trails. The profiles of the 102K, 65K and 40K categories show how participants will start, with nothing more and nothing less than this vertical kilometer.

There is nothing easy about this race. Or maybe yes, as beauty competes with the harshness of its terrain, in which the sea steals the limelight from the mountain on numerous occasions. The Mediterranean Sea makes its presence felt in the Costa Blanca Trails. There are few races that can claim this. And it is the opportunity to contemplate its deep blue color that gives strength to keep advancing towards another of the protagonists in the two ultra distance categories: the peak of Aitana, which at 1,558 meters above sea level is the highest point in the province of Alicante.

The Sierra de Aitana is a delight for the senses. Sheer vertical walls that end in pointed vertices. The contrast of its peaks with plains where beautiful streams flow. Views that stay engrained in our memory and never leave. A sanctuary for Bonelli’s eagles, falcons, hawks and owls when flying over the highest peaks on their way to the islands of Ibiza or Mallorca. There is no other environment quite like this.

This event, whose main sponsors include SCARPA and ACCAPI, in addition to the Costa Blanca Tourist Board of Alicante and Finestrat City Council, is organized by a team of people who have a great deal of experience in the mountain races world. This provides a safeguard for a race that takes place in a month where weather conditions can be changeable.

Costa Blanca Trails is destined to become a benchmark for races nationwide. Its proximity to the Levantine coast also attracts many participants from other nationalities. Now it´s just time to wait until the leaves fall off the trees to mark the beginning of autumn.
