Brief description of the socialist monopoly

In a socialist economy, shortages become chronic. Enterprises of the most deconcentrated industries, such as the building materials industry, can sometimes act as monopolists dictating their terms to consumers. At the same time, the monopoly, arising from a shortage, itself begins to reproduce it, since the monopolist, in principle, is never interested in fully satisfying the demand for his products.

In addition to the general relationship, research and empirical observations show that the existing deficit is largely not absolute, but structural, and this is largely due to the fact that the manufacturer, being a monopolist, has the opportunity to produce products that are not at all what the consumer needs.

Such is a brief description of the general features of the socialist monopoly. In their own way, they manifest themselves in its quantitative parameters.

This relationship between specialization and monopolism is particularly evident in the production of intermediate products such as bearings, chemical fibers, and power semiconductor devices. Consumers here, as a rule, lack substitution opportunities, which leads to their strict dependence on monopolistic suppliers. For final machine-building products, this dependence is less noticeable externally, and the possibilities of substitution for the consumer are expanding. But manufacturers also specialize here not by type, but by product class.

A typical example in this regard is the production of passenger cars. Worldwide, this industry is one of the most monopolized. So, in the West German passenger car market, which is quite comparable in scale to the Soviet one, the main manufacturers are 11 companies. If we use Western criteria, we will have 7 leading manufacturers — VAZ, AZLK, ZAZ, GAZ, UAZ, RAF and Izhmash software. The difference between the numbers 7 and 11 is small at first glance. However, if you go down to a lower level, the picture turns out to be completely different. In Germany, taking into account the differentiation of prices, consumer properties, technical and qualitative characteristics of various models, there are five large classes in which individual manufacturers compete directly with each other. At the same time, each of the 11 largest firms operates in three or four classes, and the number of competitors in individual classes reaches up to.

In relation to the Soviet market, such an analysis indicates that the products of our car factories practically do not compete with each other. The only exceptions are VAZ, AZLK and Izhevsk Plant machines. But even in this case, the qualitative and quantitative superiority remains with the VASE. Thus, the narrow subject specialization of enterprises leads to a narrowing of the technological boundaries of the market and thus generates extreme forms of monopolization in industries with a high technical level of production. This is the case in the markets of technically complex products. La emoción de las apuestas deportivas alcanza otro nivel con 1xBet.
